The violence recently happened in Arakan state of Burma (Myanmar) is attacking on the local Arakanese people by illegal Bengali immigrants who have been resettling to the area by decades and decades. We believe that this is not only attacking the local Arakanese, but also systematically insulting the whole nation ...of Burma.
...
When the locals defended such kind of terror attack, both sides had casualties. In this situation, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is trying to open liaison offices in Sittwe and Yangon by using the word “Humanitarian.” We, people of Burma, realize that this is an intervention of domestic affair during the Burma’s transitional period.
A few years ago, Burma sorrowfully faced with the natural disaster of Nagit and Giri cyclones which killed thousands of people in the country. The OIC which is now talking about the humanitarian issue did not make a single voice.
The OIC’s plan to open the liaison offices in Burma has come out after the recently conflict in Arakan state. If the OIC wants to do humanitarian issue, we recommend that it is better to go through the UN family organizations and representative embassies there. The plan to open the offices in the country is unacceptable because—
(1). The OIC is not a United Nations family organization,
(2). The OIC is not a regional bloc such as Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), The European Union (EU),
(3). The OIC is an organization based on the religion,
(4). Burma is not a member of the OIC,
(5). and the most important thing is that “People of Burma” do not want the OIC’s offices in the country.
The violence broke out in Arakan state is not a religious issue as we mentioned above. Opening the offices in the country without local people’s agreement may lead more conflicts and it is human rights abuses on the locals, breaking a country’s law and international’s too. If the OIC loves peace, human rights, and local people’s rights, we strongly demand to cancel the plan to open the offices in Burma.
